Natural fibres are often talked about as being superior to acrylics, but why are they good for our little ones in particular?
At Talou, all of our products are made from 100% wool, which has all of the benefits of being a natural fibre. There are other natural fibres from fantastic brands to choose from when shopping for little ones, such as cotton and linen. Look for 100% fibre quantity on the care label.
While all fabrics and fibres can be problematic for the planet, there are arguments as to why they are better than acrylics. Here are some of the reasons we choose them at Talou.
1. BREATHABLE
The natural breathability means they are perfectly suited to active play. Acrylic fibres tend to repel water, which can increase sweating and be uncomfortable for active little ones.
2. REGULATES TEMPERATURE
Natural fibres will keep your child warm when they’re cold and comfortable when its warmer. This means they can generally be worn throughout all seasons, increasing the usability of the garment.
3. BIODEGRADABLE
When natural fibres are disposed of, they will naturally biodegrade in a matter of months of years, returning valuable nutrients to the earth. Synthetic fibres can be extremely slow to biodegrade and significantly affect landfills.
They also won’t release harmful micro plastics into our seas when they are washed.
4. DURABLE
While more expensive than acrylics, natural fibres are generally more durable, meaning you will get a lower cost per wear than with acrylics and you will keep it for longer.
